Health, Safety and Environment Supervisor

Reporting to Ring of Fire Metals’ (RoFM) Site & Project Manager and working with Esker Site employees the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Supervisor plays a key role at our Esker Site in Northern Ontario. This position supports RoFM’s HSE program for our Exploration site, monitors adherence to RoFM’s safety requirements by all site personnel, and ensures compliance with company, and government policies, procedures, acts and regulations This is a rotational position based at our remote Esker exploration site on a 15-day on, 13-day off rotation, with time required in our Thunder Bay office during off-season.

Key areas of responsibility

  • Supervise & implement the HSE program at Esker Site.
  • Support, advise, challenge, review and audit line management to achieve our HSE performance objectives.
  • Maintain and update the HSE program elements as needed, both quarterly and annually.
  • Work to build engagement with site personnel including contractors to ensure HSE program elements are adhered to.
  • Manage and correct misalignment and non-compliance in regards to HSE with site personnel and external contractors as needed.
  • Participate and provide guidance in regular safety meetings, hazard management procedures and the creation of safe work practices.
  • Participate in incident investigations and reviews, audits of contractor safety management systems, loss control programs (Targe Zero), and non-compliance issues, prepare reports and make recommendations for changes as necessary
  • Support modified duty programs as required.
  • Manage H&S document control compliance
  • Ensure H&S recommendations from incidents, inspections and JH&S meetings are followed up in a timely fashion.
  • Regularly communicate progress and concerns with the HSE program at site with Site Manager
  • Ensure personnel maintain up to date training and certifications.
  • Coordinate on-site safety training.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of industry trends, HSE practices and provincial HSE legislation as it pertains to work at Esker Site.
  • Participate in pre-qualification H&S screening of potential contractors for work at site.
  • Provide HSE leadership, guidance and support to Esker Site including mentoring HSE co-ordinator

Required knowledge, competencies and expertise

  • Registered Safety Professional (CRSP or equivalent)
  • Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in Health and Safety Management
  • 5-10 years’ experience in a H&S role in a remote setting required with 1-2 years’ experience in a H&S Supervisory role preferred
  • Working knowledge and understanding of provincial and local safety and environmental regulations and programs
  • Valid Driver’s License (with a clean abstract)
  • Effective Communicator
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • COR Certification, Train the Trainer, First Aid, CPR and any additional safety certification is considered an asset
  • Familiarity with SharePoint and cloud based applications is considered an asset
  • Ability to facilitate programs and present to groups
  • Good organizational skills, a self-starter and an inspirational leader
