Senior Geologist

Reporting to the Exploration Manager and working with the Project Geologists, Manager Lands & Data, and site personnel, this position plays an important role at our remote site in Northern Ontario. This position is based at Esker Site on a 15 day in, 13 day out rotational schedule. The purpose of this position is to supervise the geology team while at Esker Site, to facilitate quality data collection and delivery, and provide significant geological contributions to the Exploration and Project Development teams.

Key areas of responsibility

  • Ensure field programs are executed safely and efficiently in adherence with Company health and safety requirements and all applicable government regulations. Demonstrate visible leadership when it comes to working safely and with respect for the environment
  • Provide effective daily supervision of the geology team at Esker Site including field crews and contractors
  • Ensure field data is collected under relevant QA/QC protocols and is of a high quality sufficient to guide exploration decisions
  • Assist in the implementation of field programs with logging of drill core and daily updates to Senior Management
  • Provide key input in the planning, design and budgeting of field programs including drilling program design budgeting
  • Working closely with the exploration team, provide substantial input to the Company’s regional and brown-fields exploration targeting programs, supported by sound technical arguments
  • Promptly address safety concerns with co-workers and Management
  • Provide mentorship to Project Geologists
  • Critically review program results with the exploration team

Required knowledge, competencies and expertise

  • An undergraduate degree in geology is required, a postgraduate degree in geology is preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in remote field exploration is required
  • Registered as a Professional Geoscientist in Ontario is required
  • A passion for geology and a drive for discovery is a must
  • A strong technical understanding of magmatic Ni-Cu-PGE, VMS Cu-Zn and Archean gold deposits, their mineralization models and applicable exploration techniques from regional scale programs to deposit level studies is required
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office suite required.
  • Experience with MapInfo-Discover and Leapfrog Geo is preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to manage field crews of varying experience
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to effectively present exploration results to Management and various stakeholders (government, FN communities, industry)
  • Experience preparing and working with detailed exploration budgets and tracking expenditures in areas of responsibility
  • Physically fit and prepared to work outdoors in a range of physically demanding environments for up to two weeks at a time
