Director, Communications

Reporting to Wyloo Metals General Manager (GM) Communications, the Director, Communications plays a key role in developing and executing strategic external and internal communications for Ring of Fire Metals. This role will work closely with the executive leadership team to facilitate the company’s external communications and stakeholder engagement in support of departmental strategy, plan and execute the company’s internal communication and employee engagement, lead social media strategy and support the GM Communications on media relations.

This role is for a high-caliber communications professional who is strategic, can effectively express our company’s views and tell our story creatively.

Key areas of responsibility

General:

  • Develop and implement the ROFM communications strategy, in line with the Wyloo Metals communications strategy, ensuring opportunities to protect and enhance the company’s reputation are identified and realized, and to maximize the successful delivery of company projects and priorities.
  • Provide strategic input to the ROFM business plan that reflects well-honed issues management, situation analysis skills and expert-level understanding of stakeholder engagement.
  • Develop KPIs and report results to ensure communications channel insights and analytics are tracked, reported and used to inform future campaigns.
  • Apply exceptional judgment to anticipate and effectively manage organizational risks and issues.
  • Stay up-to-date on evolving economic, political, regulatory and social issues that affect the business.
  • Develop and maintain the program budget;

External Communications:

  • Work closely with senior leaders across the company to facilitate effective stakeholder engagement through the development of key messages and communications collateral.
  • Oversees and develops written and online content for external communication channels, including newsletter and website copy.
  • Support senior leaders with the development of messaging, presentations, speaking notes and organizational announcements.
  • Maintain and execute a calendar of content for the company’s social media channels.
  • Write press releases and other communications as required.
  • Support GM Communications with media relations, by establishing and maintaining trusting relationships with key business and mining media, responding to requests for information from the media or stakeholders and at times serving as spokesperson.

Internal Communications:

  • Engage, connect, and inspire our people with high quality internal communications delivered virtually, at townhalls and other events or electronically.
  • Deliver leadership communications for the CEO and members of the executive team.

 

Required knowledge, competencies and expertise

  • Post-Secondary Education, preferably in Communications, Public Relations or Marketing, or in another related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of related Communications experience required.
  • Experience in the mining industry or working with government is beneficial.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in planning and developing content for internal and external communications channels, including website, newsletters and social media platforms.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with high attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work with sensitive and confidential information in a secure manner.
  • Team player, collaborative, respectful and resourceful.
  • Knowledge of Canva, WordPress or InDesign is beneficial.
